Wanita Matilda Heine

Wanita Heine, 91, died in Bellevue on May 13. She was born in Cawker City, Kansas on February 15, 1916 to Henry and Katherine Eilers. She was married to Carl F. Heine on November 7, 1937 in Downs, Kansas.  They were married 64 years. On their honeymoon, they visited Seattle and settled there to raise a family.

Wanita excelled at hospitality. During the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair she opened her home to hundreds of overnight guests from around the world, many of whom became cherished friends. She was active in her church, serving on evangelism teams, women’s circles, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, fund-raising for VaLLLey Camp (North Bend) and making quilts for overseas distribution. An avid traveler, she crisscrossed the country visiting 49 states and journeyed abroad to Europe, Central America, the Middle East, northern Africa, China and Japan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Alvin, Irvin and Herbert, and her husband. She is survived by her three children—Carolyn Norton (Redmond), Gloria Roll (Bellevue), Carl A. Heine (Warrenville, Illinois)—and seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation at Wiggins and Sons in Ballard, Thursday May 16, 10 am to noon

Interment follows at Evergreen Washelli 12:30 pm

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at Saint Luke’s Lutheran Church, Thursday May 16 at 3:30 p.m. St. Luke’s is located at 3030 Bellevue Way N.E., Bellevue, Washington 98004
